Forex Options Trading – Understanding the Risks of Forex Trading

Monday, January 25th, 2010

When you speak of investment, most people will link it to risk. This is especially true when you are looking at trading off-exchange forex contracts, the risk of loss can be quite huge. Hence, before you ever consider of jumping into this market, make sure you understand the risks involved. By understanding the risks, you can actually have a better position and firmer ground to make wiser decisions.

Not anyone can participate in highly speculative investments, like the one I mentioned above, the off-exchange foreign currency trading which involves a high level of risk. If you think have some funds which you can afford to lose and without affecting your financial well-being, by all means to go ahead investing. But if you do not have such fund, it will be wise to stay away from them. Therefore, you should understand the risks first before you decide if you are suitable for the Forex trading.

? A market with volatile environment.
We cannot see the future and thus nobody can always predict accurately whether north or south the exchange rates will go. Fluctuations in the foreign exchange rate will affect the price of your Forex contract and these changes might go against you.

? Risk of losing your savings in your investment
A security deposit or margin is required by your Forex dealer, in order for him or her to help you buy or sell an off-exchange forex contract. You can hold a Forex position worth many times the account value by a relatively small amount of money, and this is refer to as leverage or gearing. The smaller the deposits in relation to the underlying value of the contract, the greater the leverage. If the price change, even a little and go against you, you can lose a substantial amount in relation to your initial deposit. The amount of money you may have lost will depend on your agreement with your dealer, it may be your entire deposit or it may be more than your deposit.

Another ordinary money management mistake in the Forex market is overtrading. There is no well-defined trading goal for this trading, so to generate more profits is its only reason. Since it is not easy to manage multiple positions in a variety of currency trading markets successfully, you should have ultimate goals for every trade, and ensure that you achieved these goals before going into other positions.

It is a grave mistake to be too confident in yourself over the Forex trading. This grave mistake are caused by wrong belief in the so called ‘inside information’. This information may not be correct all the time and when it happen to be wrong, you may lose all your investment. Manage your investment well and do not take rumors or any special information too seriously.

Be opened to what you hear or see the real activities that are happening in the market. Do not be biases as in you only want to hear what you want to hear in relative to the favored trade. Be practical and realistic, so that you can plan your next move more effectively.

Forex Trader Training – Understanding the Beast Within

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

It is often said that a trader?s psychology is the most important aspect of profitable trading. ?Patience?, ?discipline? and ?having a system? are just some of the most commonly touted characteristics of great traders.

But while most traders are aware of these traits, many fail develop them. Why? Is it really that difficult to just sit there and have the patience to wait for a favourable trade setup? Is it hard to avoid entering into unnecessary, low probability trades?

I think the answer is no, it?s really not that difficult at all? but only if your aim is to make money.

Unfortunately, many people don?t trade to make money.

?What Are You Talking About??

Yes, you heard me right. I don?t think many people trade to make money at all. They THINK they?re trading to make money. But in actuality, they?re just looking for excitement in the market. They?re searching for entertainment.

You see, a majority of the traders in the market are bored with their lives. They wake up in the same bed, drive the same car to work, sit in the same office and push the same papers around. Then they go home in the evening, change into the same t-shirt and shorts, eat the same microwave dinners, and watch the same TV shows before going to sleep? only to wake up to the exact same day tomorrow.

They?re bored with their lives. They?re bored with the same old clockwork routine day after day after day.

Suddenly, the exciting world of Forex trading is made known to them, and they embrace it like a child in an amusement park. As humans, we all need a little emotional stimulation. Unfortunately, this craving for stimulation often turns into an addiction in the Forex market. People get addicted to the dizzying highs of a winning trade; and also to the feelings of loss and anger in a losing one. Of course, it doesn?t really matter to them if they win or lose; they?re only there for the excitement. They just won?t admit it, that?s all. But once you?re in the market for excitement, you?re finished.

You must understand that trading to make money is boring

That?s the best way I can put it. Truly, making money in the Forex market is a boring job.

If you?re looking for excitement, get a Playstation or Nintendo Wii. Maybe go down to Vegas for a quick, sinful gambling splurge if you?d like.

But don?t confuse excitement with profitability in the market. It?s not worth it.

Understanding Forex Trading Strategies

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

The Forex currency market is the world’s largest financial market where the currency of one country is exchanged with another through an exchange rate system. The purpose of trading is to aquire profits from the purchase and sale of foreign currencies. The free-floating of currencies in the market turn over at a given time are determined by the supply and demand. The currency rate is run through telecommunication over the massive network of banks. This telecommunication takes place 24 hours a day, Monday through Friday. The economy has a strong influence on the currency market and traders profit from the fluctuations based on a principle “buy low sell high” or vice versa.

The currency results will differ between the vast number of countries that exist in the world, but the currency information can be obtained both easily and quickly. Trading has become a very popular way to make money through a mutual exchange. Since everyday folks now have access to the internet, forex currency trading can now be traded by anyone, so it’s not just for the big banks and financial institutions as it once was.

If you are interested in forex, you can find out all relevant information as well as currency rates by searching the Internet. You can also take a forex trading course that allows you to understand just what it is and how it all works. There are many books, ebooks and videos available to learn about trading currencies and these can be excellent resources for not only learning this business but finding very profitable forex trading systems and strategies.

To better understand foreign currency, it is a good idea to have a good working knowledge of the currency in other countries. The more you know about the currency exchange rates between your country and one with whom you are considering trading, the easier it will be to determine when to trade, how to trade, and with who to trade.

You can even learn forex trading online with free tutorials, and can obtain a free practice account to help you get used to how it works. If you are thinking about taking part in forex trading, it might be advantageous to you to check out what others have to say about it. Consult bankers and other entrepreneurs who are well-versed in forex. A banker can better explain the currency types and rates, as well as the foreign exchange rate for any given time. Others who have participated in forex trading can be a great resource and can better explain the pros and cons and how you can profit from this business opportunity. The courses and tutorials will help you learn the system, and the practice account will give you a real-time idea of what to expect from the overall experience.

Forex Trading – Understanding Scientific Trading Theory

Monday, December 28th, 2009

The Forex market is run by humans, and human nature can be predictable. So it then follows that the Forex market is predictable, doesn’t it? We will find out the answer. Many Forex traders are using scientific theories that assist them in predicting the market and help them on their way to success and profit.

So what are these scientific theories? Let’s take a look:

There are many Forex trading systems that claim accurate predictions of market fluctuations. Do they live up to their word?

The most commonly used theories are taken from the works of W. D. Gann, Elliot, and Fibonacci. These theories operate on the basis that the market moves to science. But this reasoning is wrong. Human nature is often not logical and scientific. We do not operate on a predictable method, so why should the market? If there was a scientific theory to human nature, then we would not even have to worry about the market, because we would all know beforehand the prices and the rises and falls in the market.

Gann, Elliot, and Fibonacci never made a lot of money with their theories of a scientific market, but some traders do not realize that and stick to their methods rigidly. Just think about it. If these theories worked perfectly, why isn’t everyone following them? The answer is because these theories are flawed.

So What Do You Do?

In order to succeed and make profit from your Forex trading, you have to know the right way to trade and the most efficient and intelligent systems and methods.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that Forex trading requires trading the odds. It is crucial to realize that Forex is a market of odds, not certainties. This fact should not discourage you, because when you learn to operate by trading the odds and to rely on a solid, smart system, you will succeed and find Forex trading the ideal opportunity to achieve your financial goals.

Because we humans are ruled greatly by our emotions, the Forex market can be subject to highs and lows based on traders’ panic, greed, or foolishness. Weathering these abrupt changes and using them to your advantage can be simple.

Playing The Odds?

Forex trading is forever going to be a game of odds. Many, many traders lose and suffer losses. It is inevitable, and science and complicated prediction methods are not going to change that. But if you make sure to get a thorough education in Forex trading and practice your decisions and ventures in a demo account, you can bypass many of these initial failures.

The basis of Forex trading, and what makes successful traders win, is having a simple, reliable, stable method that you have analyzed, perfected, and tested in your demo account. Once you have this strategy, it is very important to stick to it faithfully. Sudden decisions, changes, and reactions based on gut instincts or emotions are what makes traders lose and what makes the market spike.

Keep your trading simple, logical, and steady and you will find that you are already on the road to Forex trading success.

Forex Currency Trading – Understanding The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Forex Currency Trading

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Money trading is a trade of currencies from various countries. Currency trading may seem very complex and risky. But, we must understand that the medium of exchange is a very simple system and can be performed by anyone.

First, you should understand that bargaining chip (also known as Forex) is having most money in the world’s market. This currency trading generates an exchange of more than one billion dollars in one day.

Forex is not centralized but it is spread world wide. It deals with various currencies from different parts of the world. Unlike the stock market, forex currency trading is mostly contained on one trading platform.

Forex currency trading works around the clock, seven days a week, And does not stop and people can any time trade currencies. That’s one reason for Forex trading to have more liquid and thus the largest financial market in the whole world.

The cost of a currency depends on how stable the government is. you must have noticed, that any country that does not have stable government , they will have a low value currency. Therefore, if you want to trade currency of a particular country then that country should have a stable government.

You can make more profits only when you buy currencies at low cost and then sell them when the value is high in the market. In another word to explain this is to buy the currency cheap and sell when it becomes expensive.

In trading of currencies one should know when to buy the currency and when they can sell it in the market.

This trading for currency can provide the opportunity to make more and larger and become rich. the traders in the forex currency trade can utilize the leverage of 100:1. That means that every dollar leveraged in the trading market, you get to borrow one hundred dollars .That means you can have more purchasing power in the currency trading Forex market.

Forex is fast and highly volatile. In a short period, with only a small investment, you can get bigger returns in a short time.

One more great advantage of currency trading is that it is not based upon the commission. So you get to keep the whole benefit for your investments.

The small investors in the forex currency trading market makes a significant amount of revenue and live a comfortable livelihood.

The only drawback is that the Forex because of the larger leverage , it can become very risky and you may lose in a trade. To minimize this risk, you have to plan an effective financial management..

Remember that while you invest in a currency, you are indirectly investing in the government of that country. That is why it is very important , that the government is stable so that the currency you have bought will go for the best price.

Understanding the Two Primary Types of Forex Trading

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

In forex trading, there are two primary types of forex trading strategies. One of these forex trading strategies is based on a fundamental analysis and the other is based on a technical analysis. As a forex trader you will need to integrate both of these techniques in your complete forex trading system.

The first primary type of forex trading strategies is fundamental analysis and this trading technique pertains to the economic and political conditions that may affect the currency prices. Forex traders use fundamental analysis to research information about economic policies, inflation, growth rates and unemployment rates. Traders accomplish this by using news reports about the areas where the currency they will be trading on. This information helps to provide a big picture of the economic conditions that will affect specific currencies. When dealing with fundamental analysis you will come to learn that the two more important fundamental indicators are international trade and interest rates. Other indicators will include, Durable Goods Order, Producer Price Index, Consumer Price Index, Purchasing Manager’s Index, and retail sales.

The second primary type of forex trading strategies is technical analysis. Technical trading actually takes into account the fundamentals. Technical analysis also factors in the greed and the fear of the people who will influence currency prices. Technical analysis looks at both inputs that make up the price, simply looking at the forex charts and lets that tell them where to execute their trading signals. When traders use technicals for plotting the entry an exit target prices into the forex market, they will supplement their findings with fundamental analysis. The upside to forex technical trading is that it’s much less time consuming and you are more likely to keep your emotions out of your trading. Technical analysis let’s you trade on reality, you will trade on the truth of the market price and not what your feelings say the market price should be.

While you will learn that both types of trading strategies are important for profitable and successful trades, you will also learn that traders tend to lean towards one or the other type more or so. When you incorporate the technical style of trading, you must be prepared to deal with mathematical concepts that are necessary to manipulate currency pricing data and when you incorporate fundamental analysis you must be ready to deal with many economic factors that will be necessary to base your trades on.

The most successful forex traders combine both fundamentals and technicals when trading. As a technical trader, you should understand what news events are being released and how they could potentially affect your trades. A good example would be if a currency appears to heading into resistance on a currency chart and one of those countries are expected to make a major news announcement, it would be good practice to stay out of the market until after the news event. Then once price has settled down, you can analyze what this data means to your bias and take the appropriate action.

Understanding the Protected Forex Trading Account

Monday, December 21st, 2009

When you have been trading the online currency market for as long as I have, you begin to gain an intuitive sense of when something seems out of place or sounds too good to be true. The forex market is still largely unregulated, so brokers and companies offering training can make off-the-wall hyped up claims and there will be nobody like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to step in and put them in their place (especially if the broker is not based in the United States).

When I first heard about the protected forex account, it was promoted as being a “risk free” investment, and when I heard those two words there were alarms going off in my head because as a seasoned trader I know that there is always risk associated with forex trading. So being the curious guy that I am, I decided to research a bit about what this type of account is all about, and from what I have seen it turns out that this type of forex trading setup actually is legit because it turns out to be a win-win situation for the broker and the trader in kind of a clever way.

Let’s start by defining exactly what a protected forex account entails (and this is information that I could only find from one broker, so it may not be accurate for all brokers offering this type of account). The terms of the protected forex account are as follows:

The protected forex account is much like an introductory APR rate on a new loan, as it is only a nice hook to pull in new traders. The broker will allow you to fund a mini account with up to $500, and you can trade with the typical level of 100:1 leverage. For the period of two weeks, you will be given a kind of “test run” for your trading account, and the broker will cover any of the losses that you sustain over the two week period. If your trading turns out to be profitable over the two weeks, you get to keep all of the profit in your account and continue to trade normally, at which point the regular trading rules apply again.

This is a good option for beginning traders because it functions like a funded demo account: it is impossible to lose money during this period because the broker will cover your losses if your account balance turns out to be negative. Many traders are still skeptical though, and one of the main questions that I have heard some forex traders ask about this type of account is “How is a broker able to offer this kind of setup and not lose a lot of money doing it?”

Remember that this type of account is available only for a two week period, and it is only available to a trader one time as an introductory offer, so they cannot keep going back again and again to take advantage of risk free trading. The reason the protected forex account is structured in this manner is to allow demo traders to ease into trading with real money without the fear of loss, and the maximum amount of money that can be put into a trading account is $500, but since most of these traders are filled with trepidation (or they would not be demo traders in the first place!) they will probably only put around $200 into the account. The most money that the broker can possibly lose with this kind of setup is the amount of money that the trader puts into the account, and that would only be when the trader is so bad that they run their account down to a margin call in two weeks.

On the flip side, if the account turns out to be profitable, what the broker has done is turned a demo trader into a confident live trader that is not afraid to trade with real money anymore. And because the broker makes a small amount of money on the spread for every trade that is placed, the amount of money that can potentially be earned from a single trader over a lifetime just from the spread alone is tens of thousands of dollars. So in the eyes of the broker this is a good investment because they can potentially gain thousands of dollars over the course of a few years (along with developing a trusting relationship with a new trader) by risking only a few hundred dollars, and it is good for the forex trader because they can progress from a demo account to a live account without the fear of losing money.

Understanding Forex Day Trading

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Forex day trading can be incredibly profitable if done correctly. Successful Forex day traders enjoy not only the profit and wealth-building potential of Forex trading but the peace of mind of not holding open Forex trades overnight.

Forex Day trading is system of trading on the foreign currency exchange market, where the trader begins and ends all trades on the same trading day. The trades are typically completed quickly, with the trader profiting from the changes in a currency exchange rate from time he buys and sells.

Depending on the method or system that the trader uses to pick the trades, it can be very complicated. Currency exchange rates fluctuate over the course of the day. Multiple factors change the rate many times per day. Some of those factors are other traders, world news and what current rumors. Day trading in the foreign currency market is affected by rumors, current events and news stories more than other types of trading in stocks, currency and future markets. Traders can maximize their profits by paying close attention to the current news and how it is affecting the currency exchange rates.

The foreign exchange currency market, also referred to as Forex, is the most liquid market in the world. Each day, the trading volume on Forex exceeds $1,300,000,000,000 U.S. dollars are. Forex is the world’s largest market, partly due to the practice of day trading. Day trading differs from other types of trading in the duration between buying and selling the stocks, or in this case currency. A day trader sells everything by the close of the day’s market. No currency is held over to be traded the next day. Whatever the trader buys must be sold by the end of the day or vice versa.

In actuality, the market does not have an end of the day. It is open 24 hours, there from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon. So the beginning and end of the trading day is defined by the trader, and not the market itself.

One thing to keep in mind when day trading is that the more frequently you trade the higher your transaction costs will be. This is why it is important for Forex day traders to use trading systems which can produce enough profit to overcome all transaction costs.

It is believed that the difference between a day trader and an investor is the duration between buying and selling. That definition is simplistic. The major difference is in the goals and perspective of the traders. An investor buys a stock believing it will increase in value over time, and expecting to hold for a long time so that increase can happen. A day trader buys and sells in anticipation of minor, short-term fluctuations in the currency market. Forex trading is done in large lots of 100,000. A small fluctuation in the exchange rate might not seem significant, however, it can be very profitable, or costly, when multiplied by 100,000.

Day trading on the foreign currency exchange has potential risks and rewards just like any other type of trading. Successful traders get to know the market and understand the ramifications of their trades. Traders who begin trading without an understanding of the fundamental and technical workings of the Forex market are destined to fail, just as they would in any business. High potential profit comes with high risk. Traders must be educated and prepared before they engage such the volatile, fluctuating market of day trading.

Understanding Forex Trading Software and Forex Trading Platforms

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Understanding the differences between the types of Forex trading software and Forex trading platforms can help to make you a better trader in a number of ways. Choosing the trading software that most closely matches your needs can make your journey to Forex profitability much smoother and easier.

Online Forex brokers give clients access to information about market prices and the ability to make trades via their forex trading software offerings. Online Forex trading is fairly well established so there is general agreement amongst brokers about what kind of software is optimum for these purposes. The major division of the software is between client based and web based examples.

Of course, a primary need is for real-time, second-by-second access to market information. Forex trading is very fast paced and there is no room for a lag in delivery of information so that trading decisions can be properly made. Despite the claims of all Forex dealers that their particular software will perform speedily there are many things that can delay the receiving of data.

Having a newer computer, with adequate power and speed, is one critical consideration. Another is to have an Internet connection that is high speed so you can take advantage of all that your broker’s software can offer you. Since distance from the broker’s servers is another important point it is wise to have a broker in the same general area as you are. Having a broker half-way around the globe may cause you critical delays during times of rapid trading. This, of course, may be less of an issue as trading technologies advance.

A Choice: Client Based or Web Based?

Client based software offerings are those where critical portions of the software resides on your own computer. Web based packages run over the Internet and you can access your account on your broker’s website from any computer with a web connection. Is one preferable? The trend is toward web based packages because these are much more convenient and reliable. If your computer is down for any reason you can still conduct business through a another computer. With client based software you would be restricted to the one computer.

Because the web-based software resides on the broker’s system there is much greater security. The broker can secure the data by high-strength encryption so transmissions are always protected. A single trader’s computer, on the other hand, is much more vulnerable to hackers, viruses, and other such security breaches.

The most basic features of a Forex trading software package is allowing a trader access for buying a selling and seeing real-time price information. So, of course, all packages should offer this ability. The trader can see up to the minute quotes for those currency pairs most often traded and can manage their accounts, either buying or selling by price or using stops and limits to enter and exit the market. Charting functions integrated right into the software are also very desirable.

Most brokers will offer a basic software package for free but there are higher-level, more capable programs also offered for a monthly fee. These more capable programs give you access to a large range of analytical functions and allow you to trade directly from the chart withing the Forex trading platform.

Since the heart of these systems are the data servers, Forex brokers’ servers must be secure, with all transactions processed correctly and all data integrity maintained. Since every computer system can be crippled by events outside of the control of individuals there should be separate backup servers in different locations. This means that a natural disaster, or even a simple loss of power supply, does not cripple the operation. Data backups at regular intervals will also go a long way toward assuring that client data is preserved in an accurate state no matter what.

Understanding Forex Statistics

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Once you become somewhat familiar with how the forex market works, and you understand to a point what is involved in trading on the Foreign Exchange Market, you would want to start to gauge market trends in order to profit from your business ventures on the open market.

The name of the game is statistics, and the first rule is that you must be aware there is no such thing as a sure thing on the forex market. While you can never be 100% sure at any given time of the next move that will be made on the market as a whole, being able to read statistics and interpret them will place you ahead of the pack in regards to “guessing” what will happen next.

Forex trading is a lot like gambling. If you can keep track of the cards that have already been played, you are more informed, statistically, regarding what is likely to be dealt next, meaning you can place a bet with greater insight than someone who has no clue what has already been played. With the forex market, if you have information as to what has already occurred over the past few days, months, or even years, you are again placed in a better position to more logically conclude what will happen next. You simply learn the pattern and follow it to the end, reaping the financial rewards.

Charts And Chartists

Wait, did you think you were going to have to research and map out the market’s past all by yourself? Of course not! There are people who get paid to do that sort of work. They monitor the market hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly so that they can provide big-time traders with the same knowledge mentioned before. The more a trading company knows about the market, the more money they can make.

The best part of this is that you have access to the same information as these VIP clients. Chartists, who are essentially market analysts that publish their findings in easy to read charts, produce what is referred to as a candlestick charts. These charts are basically a combination of a line graph and a bar graph that show the trend of various stocks, indexes, or other interests over a specified period of time. Therefore, you can easily determine if the currency is on an uptrend or if it is taking a downturn, when the last major change occurred, and how long it is predicted that the currency pair will continue on the current path.

If your broker does not supply you with these charts, then you should easily be able to draw them yourself with the modern day charting software or trading platform that you get from your broker. These software platforms can draw most charts for you by entering a couple of parameters and viewing the result.

It is recommended however that you learn at least the basics of charting and statistics before you start trading live.

It is crucial that you get a forex training course before you start risking your money on the forex market.
